People who love At Home On The Range love to cook, yes? Apparently not as much as they like to clean! Month after month the most popular item we sell is a roughly-textured, brightly-colored, miniature beach towel looking scrubby cloth called a Euroscrubby. It’s the item that we’re most asked about, and that item that most people refer to when they tell us that they need to come and see us at the store. So what’s the deal with these little things?
With Euroscrubbies, seeing is disbelieving. Yup, I typed that right. If you pick up a Euroscrubby and read its claim to fame I can almost guarantee at least one eye brow will be up before you’re two items into the list of things they clean….that is, unless you’ve used one before.
They’re safe on non-stick (yes, even the teflon kind). They’re safe on glass, ceramics, enameled cast iron, stainless steel, windshields, porcelain, and marble tile, but they feel like something you could stitch together and use on the belt sander in a pinch. I think it’s this rough exterior but proclaimed soft, scratchless result that generates all the questions about Euroscrubbies. And I do mean a LOT of questions. Most of the questions are pretty predictable:
Can you really use them on non-stick? Yes. This is the one that most people can’t believe. If your non-stick is already chipped or peeling, I would expect some additional sloughing if you use these, but if your non-stick is in good shape then you’ll be fine.
Can I put it in the washer? The DISHwasher, yes. The clothes washer, no. Not that the clothes washer won’t do a good job, but I think you’d want an entire load of euroscrubbies. Combine them with anything else and I predict snags and runs.
What are they made of? They are made from a 100% cotton with an environmentally friendly, patented coating.
How long do they last? Geez. That’s a tough one. They can last for several years but it really depends how much you use them and on what. If you use them on your vehicles (windshields, rims, etc) where there can be pretty heavy grime, then they might only last that one camping season. If you use them in the kitchen and around the house, then more than a year is perfectly normal.
Can I use it to scrub vegetables? Yes! They’re actually great at scrubbing potatoes and other root veggies. Just make sure that you know which one is the vegetable Euroscrubby and which one is for cleaning the sink.
Then there are my favorite questions. Ones that I’m not quite sure how to answer, though I have answered them. What would you say to these:
Do you think my sister-in-law would take it the wrong way if I got these for her as a gift? YES. If she doesn’t already know about them, and you have to tell her how they are amazing at removing the worst stuck on grease, hardest water spots and all while being gentle enough for even a basic teflon pan….really, how is she supposed to take that?
Can I use them in the tub? Alright, this seems like a normal question, but I get images of a Euroscrubby being substituted for a loofah. Very bad. So, at the risk of being the grammar police….yes, you can use them ON most tubs, but please don’t use them IN the tub.
Can you send me a set of Euroscrubbies? I don’t want any ugly ones. We will happily send you as many Euroscrubbies as you’d like but as far as the design goes, well, as one discontented Amazon reviewer put it “I didn’t even bother to use these because they don’t look anything like the image. The image shows variegated stripes, but the products I received had more of a kindergarten-art-project-gone-wrong feel to them”. So consider yourself warned. The Euroscrubby designs are bold. We never know what we’re going to get when we order and it’s not unusual for customers to dig through our box in the store room looking for a specific pattern or color. We’ll do the best we can if you order on line – but maybe your kindergarten-art-gone-wrong is our avant-garde-gone-right!
